RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research interests are rooted in my own experiences in the shoes of a language educator, language learner, and a bilingual speaker. Thus, I appreciate holistic and ecological perspectives associated with the study of second language acquisition and pedagogy, bilingualism, culture studies and language policy. I study the dynamics of language development as it interrelates with students’ learning histories and sociocultural milieus and have recently explored such topics as identity repertoire, affective talk, motion talk, and expression of other culturally-mediated concepts in the speech of foreign/second language learners. Currently, my particular interest is in computer-assisted language education and the affordances that it creates for fostering learner self-expression, inquiry-based learning, and democracy in language classrooms. I am further interested in investigating issues pertaining to teacher education, integration and normalization of computer-assisted language pedagogy in secondary and university-level environments.
